Greetings

Greetings to all.

We are Angelo and Marie Valle, currently a family of two. This afternoon, we went to the grocery store together, a chore we rarely accomplish well together. On this standard trip, we can to the conclusion that there are many odd food items in our lives. Some that we find, some that we make, some that find us. We wondered together how many people don’t buy things simply because they never have. Most people go into the grocery store and get basically the same items they bought last week, perhaps with a few additions or subtractions. We decided to buy more strange and new things and blog about what they are, what they test like and our opinions on the various items. We’re not yet sure how frequent this will be, but we do eat every day, so we’ll blog all the weird stuff. Here’s to a lifetime of weird food and our criticism of such goodness.

Let the oddities begin.

Wonka Scrumdiddlyumptious Bar

We begin this wonderful culinary journey with everyone’s favorite snack food, Chocolate.  The Wonka company is a brand owned by Nestle and most obviously named after Roald Dahl infamous Chocolateer in Charlie & the Chocolate Factory.  The most popular products coming from the infamous Wonka Line include Everlasting Gobstoppers, the Wonka Bar and as of the last month the new Scrumdiddlyumptious Chocolate Bar.  This bar is mentioned in the 1971 version of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory but it wasn’t until 2010 that the bar bursted into existence and so here we go with the review…

Unwrapped!

The “Scrumdiddlyumptious Chocolate Bar” is full of the bold flavors of toffee, cookies (perhaps Oreos) and peanuts (not peanut butter, just salted peanuts), while the milk chocolate flavors are subtle. The tastes of the elements that make it crunch far outweigh that of the chocolate making it more of a “Toffee/Cookie/Nut Bar with chocolate” rather than the advertised “Chocolate Bar with toffee, cookie and nuts”. Although the milk chocolate is smooth to the tongue, the pieces force more chewing than a standard plain bar of chocolate. Angelo said it balances “sweetness and nutty goodness”.

Don’t try to eat the whole bar at one sitting for the flavors are rich, even a square or two would be enough to satisfy. Make sure you have a glass of milk available when you eat the chocolate for the taste sticks with you long after the chocolate is gone.

On a scale of 1 to 4, with 4 being the best, both Angelo & Marie rated the “Scrumdiddlyumptious Chocolate Bar” a 3, saying that it was a great chocolate bar if you love toffee and nuts. However, with a price tag of more than $2, we would be hesitant to buy it again.
